April 2026 Update
Part of the expanding operations at Cass County Station includes the conversion of existing generation units to dual-fuel and the addition of new generation units. Completing specialized and complex piping work for this project has been a challenge due to a shortage of available pipe fitters. Beginning April 20, 2026, our contracted partner is adding an overnight shift in order to catch up with this work to ensure the plant is ready to receive and load fuel-oil later this summer, as planned, and ready for conversion later this year.
OPPD and our contractors do our best to minimize disruptions to the communities we serve during work like this. However, our plant neighbors in Cass County may notice some increased activity and noise during the hours of 6 p.m. and 4 a.m. as crews test pipe that is being installed during the daytime. This work is expected to last between four and six months.
We greatly appreciate our customers’ patience as we build generation to ensure reliability and resiliency of our grid – now and into the future.
Thank you for your contribution!
