December 2025 Update
As the end of 2025 nears, construction to expand Cass County Station (CCS) continues to transform the surrounding landscape. About 200 workers logged more than 30,000 hours of labor in November. Here’s what they’ve been doing:
- Excavation – More than 21 miles of conduit for electric cables, and nearly 2.75 miles of pipe have been buried in trenches that workers dug at CCS. In all, workers have excavated 405,000 cubic yards of soil as part of the Cass County Station expansion project.
- Installation of deep concrete foundations – More than 4,300 cubic yards of structural concrete have been poured at CCS this year. That’s more than enough to fill an Olympic-sized swimming pool, taking 350 full concrete mixer trucks.
- Promises kept – That heavy truck traffic is taking a toll on the surrounding roads. OPPD is honoring its commitment to our neighbors by partnering with the Cass County Department of Roads to supply gravel for road repairs along 42nd Street.
- Storage tank erection – Crews are starting to build large storage tanks to support the dual-fuel operation of power generators at CCS. Four fuel oil storage tanks hold 1.5 million gallons each, while four demineralized water tanks store 800,000 gallons each.
We’re excited about the progress at CCS, which will make OPPD’s power network ready to meet tomorrow’s needs. All communities in OPPD’s 13-county service territory should feel confident they will have dependable electric service to continue to thrive.
