South 180th Street

This project, which is a rebuild of an existing 161kV transmission line, is needed to provide additional reliability to the transmission grid but is also required to allow the full output of the new Turtle Creek Station Balancing Plant. In addition to the rebuild of the 161kV, OPPD made a decision to rebuild the line as a double circuit 345kV over 161kV. Including the 345kV as part of this rebuild allows us to use existing right of way to accommodate part of the new Cass-to-Sarpy Transmission Project. Reusing this right of way will reduce the impacts to the landowners around the 180th and Giles Substation where this line will connect.

As we begin construction, safety is OPPD’s priority, both before and during construction. We ask the public to do everything they can to keep construction areas safe. Be aware of activities happening, and do not enter an active worksite.

OPPD has contacted impacted landowners. Before construction began on their property, crews performed survey activities including staking, trimming and clearing trees/brush, preparing access for equipment and installing measures to prevent erosion. The work is being followed by line removal, foundation installations, structure framing/setting and wire work. Clean up is the final phase of construction. OPPD partnered with Dietzel Enterprises, Inc. and Brink Constructors, Inc. to construct the transmission lines.

The new transmission poles will meet modern standards, similar to the poles pictured below.
