OPPD is proud to play an important part of keeping the communities we serve powered and thriving. As our region continues to grow, we are defining solutions to meet the energy challenges of tomorrow while remaining focused on affordability and reliability. We’re working on a long-term vision for future rate plans and products to best serve our customers. The rate design project is not associated with a decision on annual rate increase.

In a time of dynamic technology, environmental concerns and generation mix, OPPD is proactively preparing a long-term vision on rate design principles aimed to best serve and represent our OPPD customers and guide the organization’s investment of resources, as well as guide future rate and product offerings.

Learn more about the Board Workshops, held June 22, Aug. 10 and 29. Recordings of each of the Board Workshops are available.

Our first phase included an 11-month engagement and outreach process that aligned on rate principles with customer preferences, and created a modern foundational document for future rate design. Part of phase 1 included three full-day board sessions, June 22, Aug. 10 and Aug. 29, and the public was invited to attend and observe. Workshop recordings are available here. As a result of these sessions, the board identified and agreed on the recommended rate principles to be used for future rate design.

After the workshops and board direction, the next step was to identify the concepts to be achieved through rate design, products, services or solutions. These concepts support the principles based on the board sessions and also the customer engagement.

In August, 2023, OPPD presented this final report which contains a high-level roadmap of how and when the rate design strategies will be implemented. This concluded phase 1 of the Rate Design Project and will provide direction for phase two, which is the rate design, products, services and customer solutions that will be prioritized for the biennial rate package, which contains the rate related work that will be prioritized for the next two years. As part of our public power promise, as updates are available, OPPD will continue to communicate with our customers.
