OPPD has a 161-kilovolt (161kv) transmission line that runs from North 108th and Blondo streets to South 123rd and Pacific streets in Omaha. This line was originally built in the 1950s, when this area was on the western edge of Omaha. Now, 70 years later, the landscape has changed significantly, and the line needs to be renovated in order to continue supplying critical energy to the area.

Given the continued load growth and economic development projects in our service territory as well as our commitment to reliability, OPPD will rebuild this line to meet modern standards. As part of this work, any older-style lattice towers will be replaced with modern steel monopoles. More information on this project can be found in this OPPD The Wire article.

In late October/early November 2023, OPPD crews and contractors began prep work ahead of transmission construction, which began in December 2023. Due to the project’s complexity, the timing of construction activities will depend on the weather.

While we understand that construction activities may be disruptive to our neighbors, we believe the new, smaller structures will significantly benefit the community in the long term. Although these new monopoles have a smaller footprint, some tree clearing will be necessary to ensure safety and reliability. All impacted landowners have been personally contacted during this first important step.

Safety is a priority for OPPD and it’s important we keep construction areas safe. We respectfully ask property owners and neighbors be aware of activities happening in and around your neighborhood. Please do not enter an active worksite. Allow plenty of space for equipment to maneuver to avoid damage.

For directly impacted properties, specific questions about your easement and property access during construction can be directed to OPPD Land Management via hotline (531-226-3062) or email at landmanagement@oppd.com.
